It seems with the people going missing it seems like even Rocket was calling upon the lowest of the low as he got a message on his phone telling him to go to Mt Chimney and meet up with another Rocket to help look for some missing people of theirs. Razz checking out the list on his little prepaid as he pondered about skipping to continue with 'Ashton's low ranking. Though it might be a good chance to see if the other side knew much more than they did as some of his own Rangers were missing from the roster. [break][break]

So here he was at the base of the volcano waiting for whoever it was he was suppose to check with. All while leaning against his Cyclizar with Sable by his side to hold up his disguise for the beginning of things. He had the wig to match the usual illusion she did for him but he also had a neck gaiter and goggles ready to put on for when they actually went higher and he would have to draw her back in. [break][break]

When texted where he was he just gave a simple answer with all the mistakes that internally break him-[break][break]

He's heard the grunt's name before; Cillian's good with names, rarely forgets them. But passing knowledge only suggests enough reliability to have stuck around through Hoenn's various disasters and conflicts. He's never met the guy before, doesn't know what he looks like.[break][break]

Doesn't really care what he looks like, and so the first exchange of texts between them leaves Cillian grouchy, exasperated, and none the wiser as to Ashton's location on this godforsaken mountain. The ash hangs thick in the air, clings to clothing and threatens to coat the back of his throat through every breath. The dust mask was fighting a losing battle.[break][break]

Cillian could've sent someone else. Anyone else. But there were Rockets in danger.[break][break]

So, after an irritating back and forth, he eventually trudges up to Ashton's location. He's not disguised, though he may as well be: the goggles and ash-covered clothes offer a far less refined image of the underboss than he's used to presenting.[break][break]

Of course, to Raziel Beckett, who has seen him ragged and cowering in Kanto, perhaps it wasn't so unfamiliar after all.[break][break]

"You hear anything since getting up here?"[break][break]

Cillian's all business in spite of his sour mood, already turning to hike further up the unestablished trails. Even the Rangers didn't usually come up this far; too dangerous. The sort of environment you called in the big guns for.

It takes a bit for the other to find him, admittedly most the fault on him for not being very clear. Though he knows he needs to commit to the bit. Otherwise what was the point? Though as the man he's been messaging finally meets up with him, he is a bit surprised to see Gavin... wait no he went by a different name now. From what he had heard their true name? [break][break]

Honestly he wasn't sure about the details of it. Though there was a small part of him that irked him about it, a feeling he wasn't used to so he couldn't even give it a name. [break][break]

"Doesn't someone like you got mo' 'portant stuff ta do?" he questions carelessly to help both establish 'Ashton's character but also help establish that he just doesn't know the other. Gavin has essentially become a stranger to him over the years.[break][break]

"'n nope, we ain't hear shit, wutz that ol' riddle," he pretends to ponder, "If a tree fell does it make a sound bit or whatever?" it wasn't a riddle, smart man like Cillian would know this and as does he in real life, but he knew such comments weren't something his mother kept quiet. So why would his character who he's loosely based on her would? "Don't think we can hear shitz if we ain't there, or if they.... ain't.... here?" he pauses to put a hand on his chin as if clearly he were thinking too hard.

Honestly, with the kid's careless attitude toward him, Cillian hadn't been sure. But the implication that the underboss has better things to do with his time leaves an impression that Ashton is familiar with his rank, if nothing else.[break][break]

He shakes his head.[break][break]

"This is important. One of our own is missing."[break][break]

They were not a high ranking member nor an Avatar or important public figure, but they were Rocket. That alone was a badge of honour in Cillian's eyes, worthy of respect. They were not on his list of potential defectors, their loyalty was not under scrutiny, and so neither was his.[break][break]

His expression pinches as Ashton prattles on; his spoken word is almost worse than the texting.[break][break]

But his eyes worked, and that was all that mattered here.[break][break]

"Come on," says Cillian curtly, ignoring everything but the task ahead. "Watch your step. They don't send people up this way for a reason."[break][break]

SHADOW MIASMA dogs his steps as Cillian begins to climb.

"I mean ah know I ain't the brightest shed in da toolbox," why does he have to hurt himself like this? "But ah know of some of da higher ups," he says this in a way where he's clearly proud of this accomplishment of knowing some of them.[break][break]

He shrugs about the person missing though, cause while honestly he is worried about the people missing. His own concern for his missing rangers probably would've easily match Cillian's, but Ashton just couldn't give a damn. "Ain't that why y'all keep recruiting? Replace any weak links?" [break][break]

There is nor surprise when his comments are ignored as he decides to go on top of his Cyclizar and have the dragon follow suit. The pokemon easily keeping up with the underboss. Razz didn't want any of his experiences as a Ranger to shine through in helping him travers the terrain. Something that he could easily hide as long as he used the dragon. "Is it cause no one wants their lungs ta be like those in Fallarbor?"

"That's not—" But though Cillian starts to correct the turn of phrase, he stops himself. There was no point. He just had to suffer through this one job with the guy and make a point to never intentionally work with him again. "Whatever."[break][break]

There's an easier thing to latch onto, that being: "You should know all of them."[break][break]

It was reprimand, but also advice. It was important to know who ranked above you, who could cut you down for looking at them funny.[break][break]

This wasn't Kanto any more, but old habits died hard.[break][break]

He scoffs at the assumption. "No. We recruit so that we don't stagnate. Like any organization." Fresh blood kept the system alive. "Doesn't mean we're just going to let someone rot on top of this damn volcano."[break][break]

He has to stop to cough several, what ash that sneaks through the dust mask bothering his already damaged throat. It leaves his face flushed and his lungs burning, yet still he persists. It wouldn't kill him. That was all that mattered.[break][break]

He'd lived in Fallarbor, once. The worst decision for relocation; it had been no wonder he'd been able to get the luxurious property on a discount.[break][break]

"That, and one slip'll kill you." It was a long, jagged fall. "Least the ash makes a trail easy to spot. Look."[break][break]

He gestures to partially-filled footprints left in the thick deposits. They were going the right way.

As much as he is annoying himself with his ridiculousness he can't help but wonder just how much he is annoying the other. His mind can't help but wonder to old times in the lab when the other was much more willing to teach and correct when he was still figuring things out. Yet he couldn't even be bothered now, though this was their 'first' meeting so Razz has little doubt that is also adding onto this. [break][break]

"Ah know 'em! Theres uhhh Mr. Wash, Theo I know 'im cause he da guy that recruited me, errr the girl uhhhh Beth... Fio.....rell?" he counts his fingers with one had with each name as he continues to ride Blurr as they head up the ashy mountain. "And them the important ones, oh n' you!" close enough for 'Ashton''s book at least. He infiltrated Rocket to keep in the low ranks, see if he couldn't pick out any green ones that it wasn't too late for. Get them caught early before they could get in too deep. Give hints to his Rangers about pokemon in trouble, not to get deep in Rocket and keep track of those above. [break][break]

That would be too risky, and involve a lot more time than he could afford to give as Slateport's Captain. [break][break]

"That's fair I guess," he shrugs with the answer of looking into the volcano, he gives some pause as the other coughs due to the falling ash. Filters or not it was think here, and it was why he was choosing to ride the dragon who could handle these conditions. Not let himself breath harder than he needed to. "Boss man it may be a good idea fer you to ride sumthin' the pokemon are way more equipped ta travel than us," he advises knowing this would probably be the only good advice he gives today. [break][break]

He and Cillian might be enemies but still....

A lot. He is annoying Cillian a lot.[break][break]

Yet while Cillian is different enough from the Gavin Merlino that Raziel had known, some things about him have not changed. His stoicism, his steadfast loyalty to Rocket, and his respect for the hierarchy. [break][break]

"Walsh," is correctly curtly, and "Fiorelli. You must be familiar with Underboss Beckett, to use his name so casually."[break][break]

Sometimes he's reminded how far removed they are from Kanto, where Cillian had only dared to use THEO BECKETT's name on rare occasions. Now, it was strange when he called him Beckett. The tables have turned.[break][break]

He pauses in purposeful stride at Ashton's advice. Surprisingly useful, considering how stupid the man seemed.[break][break]

A GENESECT is released; the shiny red construct had no lungs to inhale smoke. It shifts into its flight configuration, and Cillian hauls himself onto its back. The thick haze of ash in the air would keep the metal from getting unbearably hot.

"That's what ah said! Wash n Fiorelli," the 'Wash' part coming off more as a broken accent thing rather than the more confident pronunciation of the other under boss's name. "N' ya 'bout that Theo guy, man even invited me over to his house before," he gives some insight though that's when he remembers how the two always seemed weird about each other and now ponders if that were a good idea or not. [Break][break]

Oh well, Ashton was meant to be the embodiment of bad ideas. [break][break]

"Holy shiz wuz that!?" he exclaims in shock at the sight of the genesect haven't have seen anyone use it before. Seems like the scientist have evolved from simply improving pokemon. Though Ashton does give the other a cheeky smirk.[break][break]

"See this why ya keep the lazy, Ma always said we make the annoying effective," a rehashed and oversimplified version of something his dad used to say had Cillian ever asked why the man kept Griff and a few others on the team. [Break][break]

It's when broken terrain catches his eye, one that was much more unnatural than the usual, especially with the lack of ash. "Oi boss man! My poke found somethin'!" he gives the credit to blurr as Ashton was far too stupid for this.

Well, it was better than Hitoshi Inoue's 'Clean Wash'.[break][break]

There's a brief narrowing of gold eyes. Why had THEO BECKETT brought this idiot into his home? But he'll never openly question one of his counterparts aloud in the presence of a grunt, and so his expression shifts back to neutrality.[break][break]

"Genesect."[break][break]

The construct's eyes glow at the mention of its name, though a lack of follow-up order sees them dim.[break][break]

"A weapon of war. A construct."[break][break]

And a very convenient mount, gliding easily over rough terrain and giving Cillian's aching muscles a chance to rest. He will not pile on praise, but does offer a concession of, "Excellent thinking."[break][break]

Surprising, for such a fool.[break][break]

The turn of phrase sees his brow furrow. There's something familiar about it. But, perhaps fortunately for 'Ashton', the gears in Cillian's brain grind to a halt when a trail is found. Progress matters far more than cobwebbed memories.[break][break]

"Blood." Not good. A pokeball is tossed into the air, and an AERODACTYL emerges. The DARK PREDATOR was an excellent tracker. "Can you pick up a trail, Sluagh?"[break][break]

He ROARS in reply and begins to lead.[break][break]

"Your Pokémon any good at fighting?"

"Bro that's siiiick," there is a pause before Ash looks to Cillian, "N' da good way not bad way cause uhhhh ya know," he non-directly calls the other old before Blurr had moved ahead and they saw the destruction and blood. That wasn't a good sign but razz was sure that the both of them could handle this with ease. [Break][break]

He was a Ranger Captain and the other Rocket Underboss what could go wrong?[break][break]

"They're great, ya gonna see just why we were hired!" he tells him confidently as the move forward until the trail leads them to a den, and a scene from his nightmares play out. [break][break]

An all too familiar lion's roar growls in warning and Razz can't help but freeze. Out from the den comes out a pride of Pyroar. With all the dangers that have been happening, causing pokemon to collect more food it clear to him that the pyroar were desperate. [break][break]

And while all this would be the logical way if thinking about things 'Ashton' is frozen in place, the confident brovado gone as seeing them just makes him think back tto that night. He's locked there and he can't move, can't give an order even when Blurr seems to call out to him. Had it been Salem calling he might have been able to get through this hurdle but currently he feels stuck. Begging himself to move, to grab a pokeball to something. Yet he only finds his vision blurring as it becomes increasingly harder to breathe, and it wasn't because the ash.[break][break]

Seeing their moment for more one, the Pyroar lunges themselves at him and all he sees is back when his father ordered his pyroar to attack him. Blurr moves for him though, driving back to give some distance before knocking his trainer off his back before it strikes with BREAKING SWIPE.

Cillian offers a withering look. He wasn't a grandfather.[break][break]

"I know what 'sick' means."[break][break]

There were plenty of youth in Rocket and he heard enough of their chatter to understand basic slang, even if it had missed his own youth thanks to growing up around Galar's upper class.[break][break]

Ashton projects a level of confidence Cillian doubts, but not enough to challenge him. He feels capable enough in his own right not to be concerned as they follow the Aerodactyl's flight path to a literal lion's den.[break][break]

He is unflinching at the growl, but his companion is not so resolute.[break][break]

Seeing the lion lunge for Ashton, Cillian is quick to click his tongue. Registering the command, the Genesect fires an ELECTROWEB at the predator, ensnaring it in a crackling net of energy as Ashton's Cyclizar leaps clear. Slowed by the web, the Pyroar is easily clawed by the dragon's BREAKING SWIPE. It growls anxiously and begins to back up, understanding itself to be outmatched.[break][break]

But Cillian is not known for his mercy.[break][break]

Slotting a WATER MEMORY into Genesect's drive slot, another click sees it fire a WATER-TYPE TECHNO BLAST. The cat crumples, and Cillian rounds on Ashton. Perhaps he'd expect further assault.[break][break]

Instead, Cillian demands, "What the hell was that?"

Well wasn't this a familiar scene, him on the ground scared and someone else coming in to save his ass because he couldn't preform. More often than not it was usually Asriel Pryde saving his ass when he was younger , but Cillian wasn't an uncommon face to that. He can't help but be angry with himself as he knows he is better than this. He wasn't that scared child anymore and yet...[break][break]

"Ya knock out... da leader... the others... submit....," he advices the best he can in his situation, hating that he was breaking the stupid for this but he needed them gone. While the pyroar pride try to intimidate Blurr uses SHIFT GEAR to prepare for battle before running forward with another BREAKING SWIPE to allow Cillian's mon a better opening on the male pyroar.

PRESSURE becomes suffocating as Lugia takes the field, her RAIN DANCE dampening the heat and flames as Genesect PROTECTS the cowering Ashton from further harm. Cillian himself faces down the pride of lions with naught but speed and reflex to protect him, diving clear of a spray of flames. He can hear the air hiss with steam as the Guardian's rain contests the blaze.[break][break]

A WHIRLPOOL snares the male Pyroar in its vortex, drowning.[break][break]
